Using a chat-bot to train Veterinary students for complex client conversations
Project Overview
The project I will develop is a dual-role AI chat-bot that would play the role of a standardized client as well as the role of a coach specifically designed to give Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students tailored and immediate feedback on their communication skills. I propose to design at least three interactive cases of heightened client encounters (e.g. suspicion of animal abuse, second opinion) during which students will be able to practice their verbal active listening skills to gather a complete history of the patient, clearly communicate a plan, and check for understanding.
The learning objectives for the activities are 1)Maintain verbal active listening skills in heightened situations. 2)Recognize a clinical picture indicative of animal cruelty. 3)Maintain professionalism and collegiality during patient encounters.
