AI as Co-Pilot: Preparing Future Land Managers for Conflict and Controversy

Project Overview

This project strategically integrates GenAI as a tool for both low-and high-level tasks in a 4000-level course, Managing Recreational Lands. Following best practices, the project is an initial step toward GenAI fluency and aims to enhance current learning objectives that relate to 1) comparing and contrasting federal land management policies and organizations and 2) applying management tools to reduce impacts and conflicts. The project aligns with the GenAI literacy goals as it provides an opportunity to analyse if and how GenAI can enhance learning experiences, maximize students’ skills while also providing ethical and effective uses of Gen AI. The project supports career readiness and critical thinking skills. With follow-up discussions among the students, they can reflect on the shared experiences and continue critical analysis of the GenAI.
